He's Alive!!!! (for now)

So Mr. Kitty, my fish, is still hanging in there. My coworker Stacey
did some investigating and found out that he must have over eaten
after he was starved while I was on vacation. This resulted in his
swim bladder having an issue. The interweb suggested feeding him the
inside of a shelled pea which acts as a laxative for fish. I was
growing concerned as the day drew on because I didn't see him eat any of the mashed pea but then Dr. Stacey spotted some
dropping under his desk! There is hope. I'll keep you posted.

Looking Around

I've been thinking a lot about trying to slow down and look around me
a little more. I've been using the internet for visual references
lately and for the past few weeks I've been uninspired. I think I
need to slow down and look around more. I saw this lady in Walgreens
yesterday and I adored her and her rain cap. My grandmother never
left home without one. She will appear in a painting soon.

BYOProject Day!

Today was the first monthly art and craft day. I think the crummy
weather kept people at home on their couches but we had six in
attendance and I think it has the potential to grow. This is Ashley,
she was making these awesome little stuffed animals. If you live in
the Cincinnati area and would like to attend email me at theboiledpeanut@gmail.com

BLAHOG

I've been feeling blog lame. I think coming down from vacation combined with a gloomy rainy week has killed my lust for posting. I forced myself to draw this drawing tonight because I don't want to get out of the habit of blogging. I have a few ideas for paintings floating around in my head so hopefully I'll get some time to commit those to paper soon. Stay tuned.

Lost

So my favorite TV show of all time is Lost. Tonight it broke my mind
and I'm now just sitting on the couch trying to figure out what could
possibly happen next.

Home!

We are back from SXSW. I'm feeling pretty tired but I'm so glad to be home to my cats, blooming flowers, and my computer. I did have a chance to check out this artist's site that I met in Austin. Her name Is Eliza Thomas. You should check out her work. I really appreciate her use of nature and color.

Invisible Hand

We met this band on the interstate. For real. They pulled up next to
us and asked if we were going to Memphis by way of bright orange
paper. They were looking for a show and gave us their number but we
couldn't help them. I guess a van heading south with four shaggy
tired people looked promising to them. It seems that this method paid
off eventually because they found a place to play and we stopped by
before our Buccaneer load in. They were pretty good and pretty random.

The Buccaneer

This is a house made into a lounge made into a music venue. Pirate
themed.

Packed

Except for those shoes that wouldn't fit. I don't think Ben has
realized that I've packed 5 pair.

There IS Life!

Yesterday I caught a ride to work with a friend because Ben needed my
car. She had to stop at The Home Depot and I couldn't resist buying
these pansies...and some canna bulbs. I love this time of year when
life outside starts to be possible again. I have to bring them in at
night but I don't mind. Soon my yard will be filled with flowers!
Today was my last day of work for a week and two days. YAY! Stay
tuned for some adventures as we drive south and things get greener!

Also, my mom said she missed my face.

Another Cool Book

Another recent book purchase of mine is this book. You can learn more about the Ism project here. I've been working on some ideas for Bad Veins album covers so I haven't been painting or drawing much in the last two weeks. They probably won't get chosen but it's been good practice to keep up my developing Adobe Illustrator skills. I'll post my attempts once they settle on one. Tomorrow is my last day of work for a week and two days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Day Off!

Yesterday was my birthday so I decided to give myself the day off from blogging. I had a great day thanks to Ben, friends, coworkers, and adult beverages. My good day yesterday made for a rough day today. Tonight was my last Adobe Illustrator class. I'm still working on my big project but this is what I accomplished tonight.

I Love Trips To the Bookstore!

We went to the bookstore today and I decided to buy some books for inspiration. My mind feels stumped these last few days as I try to come up with the Bad Veins album cover. One of the books that I settled on was the Three by Three Illustration Annual No. 5. It's really cool and well worth the $19 that I spent on it. It led me to this site which has a lot of great illustrators featured.

On another note, check out my friend Ben's new site!

Spring Is On Its Way!

I had my car window down today! I can't wait for the first sign of
green.

Check It Out

I painted this light box for Bad Veins that is inside their new merch
box. This isn't a great picture and it's not so easy to paint acrylic
on such a slick surface.

Frustrating!

I came home from my Illustrator class all jazzed that I would have something to show after a few more hours of work but I've had the most frustrating time trying to figure out how to do the simplest thing so I'm giving up for the night. My instructor did show us this cool site.

New Blogs to Visit!

Tonight I decided to do some blog research and find some new blogs to follow and share them with you. As a result I'm deleting a few from my blog list because it's starting to get overwhelming over there. It's nice to have a few new ones to look visit.

1. The first one is Inside A Black Apple which I've actually been to before but forgot about it. I really like her paintings, they sort of remind me of the colors that I use in my own.

2. I think the first blog led me to Confessions of a Blueberry Bandit. At first glimpse I was unsure but THEN I searched around a bit and loved her blog. First she has a link to the Henry Darger book and he is another of my favorite artists. Perhaps I'll do a list soon to share with everyone. Second, I think she may have a musician partner of some sort that played at CMJ which we have in common. Third, in one post she referred to Conan O'brien as her TV boyfriend which I can totally relate to. She also likes Battlestar Galactica and has lots of pictures of cats. I've had an on going battle with Oscar trying to lay on my arms. I've kicked him off of my desk about 25 times in the last half hour. He will win eventually.

3. I've been really into patterns lately so I was excited to find Ish and Chi. It's a really fun blog to wander. I've been wanting to use more pattern in my paintings. I love the idea of torturing myself with painstaking detail.

Okay so I thought I would look up a ton of them but I spent so much time on these three that I'm ready to call it a night. More to come in the future. This was definitely fun for me.
