Finished

The paintings are hung which I guess means they are done. I wish I had more time to work on them but time ran out. I'll post individual pics of them once the show comes down. I don't think they are my best work but it's work which will hopefully lead to more work. You can see them for yourself at Fabricate through August 8th.

Progress

Painting! I'm feeling quite rusty but they are coming along slowly. I've got to figure out how to make myself do this more often. I always love it when I get in the middle of several paintings at once, it just doesn't happen that often these days. Read more about the show here opening this Saturday! This one that I'm holding is a pic of my mom when she was in high school I think. She has the cutest single dimple!

A Pile of Paintings

They are ready for paint! This will be what I spend every waking minute on this next week that isn't spent at work. I'm SO behind but I like a tight deadline and a good challenge. I hate how I let my hands get so rusty though, the drawings are all so crude in comparison to how they work out when I've been drawing a lot. I had a little scare this morning, I slipped coming down the stairs from the attic and fell pretty hard. I was really freaked out so I went to the doctor to make sure everything was okay with the baby and it was. When I heard the heartbeat, which I've heard several times now, I burst into tears; so relieved that it was still there. I think today was the first moment that my everything registered love for this little life that's growing.

4x6 Paintings

I've missed my 4x6 paintings! One of my favorite Fabricate customers commissioned me to do these paintings of her family for her. It's hard to tell what someone looks like from a photograph. I feel like people have so many sides and faces that can look so different from day to day. What someone looks like to me seems like it can be very different from someone else. I used to do a lot of self-portraits because I was just looking in the mirror to see if I was still there, but now I'm still just trying to figure out what I look like. It's an interesting challenge to try to capture what someone else looks like to their mother, wife, daughter. I hope I didn't mess up the image in her mind too much.

Illustration Project!

I did 7 illustrations for the Best of Cincinnati issue of City Beat. You can check them out on their site or pick up a copy for the glossy version! This project required me to stare at pictures of pigs for a week and I realized that pigs are really weird animals to look at but it was a fun project. Now I'm ready to move on to that children's book.

Also, Fabricate was voted one of the top 10 new stores in Cincinnati! Yay!

All 100 paintings. I'm excited to see them all together the way
they've been in my head for months. Many of them have sold which is
exciting though there are a few that I'm sad to see go. There are
still some left so get to Fabricate!!!

Fighter

Painting number 83. It's been a year today since I was mugged. It's not the same date but the last Sunday in October. The weather felt the same today and I was accidentally wearing the same outfit which isn't that odd for this time of year given most Sundays I can be found in Chucks and my favorite green hoodie. It's interesting how that one day changed the way I feel about my own personal security, strength, and how it pretty much erased the daily walk from my life. He's in prison now for 5 years at age 17. There are days when that doesn't sit well with me, the idea of a 17 year old kid in prison for that long. I can't really explain that feeling though.

On a lighter note this cheesy video made me laugh out loud tonight.

This song has been stuck in my head for weeks because of the show Glee. I'm loving that show so much right now. I think it might be one of my new favorite songs. Today, Ben told me about a cover of the song by Pomplamoose which is really good. Ironic.
