15 Months

This week marks a year since I returned to work after Polly arrived.  What a crazy year and she looks like a little kid in this picture, not a baby.  Making it to this point feels like a huge accomplishment while juggling adjusting to motherhood, taking on new responsibilities at work, and running a store and indie craft show on the side.

This year has been a year of choices, many of which center around Polly and thinking about what type of mom I want to be, what I want Polly to know of me as a woman and the type of people I want her to be surrounded by each day.  Many of these thoughts have led me to giving up one of those things that I've been juggling, my store Fabricate.  It was a hard choice but it's led to me rediscovering weekends, friends, family, and any day now...making art.  Polly has already gotten to spend more time with friends and family which has been awesome.  It's also given me even more time with Polly which is a huge bonus all around.  Here are a few highlights from this last month:
  • My husband traveled some this month and when he left, he left us with a great present called the stomach flu.  I thought maybe he had food poisoning from eating on the road but nooooooo.  Polly luckily didn't get it but it took me out and then a few days later it took out Beth, the awesome babysitter.   There were tears, a pathetic call to my mom just for pity, and a moment on my living room floor where I just laid there while Polly ran circles around me and I just kept thinking over and over again, "I DON'T WANT TO BE AN ADULT TODAY."  It was one of those illnesses where you feel like a whole new person when the fog is lifted.
  • I hear my tone in Polly's voice when she says words a certain way and it terrifies me!
  • Polly officially has a favorite stuffed animal which is pictured above!  It's so cute how she loves him/her and gives kisses.  At night she gets SO excited to get in bed with her BEA!  That's how she says bear and it's so cute.  Half the time she also calls it a baby too.
  • She's sleeping through the night.  Yes, it's taken this long.  I'm even a little afraid of typing that here in fear that she might stop tonight.  I feel like a new person with a full night of sleep.  I've even started remembering my weird dreams.  Last night I was pregnant and it was a boy (who had a giant penis in the sonogram which made dream Ben proud).  I woke up thinking, NO I JUST STARTED SLEEPING!
  • She thinks all of the things that she's not allowed to touch are called no no.  She doesn't exactly respond to no(at least not all of the time) but she does know all of the things in the house that are called no no like the record player, the records, electric outlets, and cats.  She approaches them and says no in question form like, "no, no?"  She then looks at you and touches them anyways.
  • She still likes peeing without her diaper on in the few seconds of freedom before bath time.  Rebel.

Crafty Supermarket Loot!

Crafty Supermarket was awesome yesterday! I can't believe we have another show under out belts. We had nearly 2,600 shoppers and while I thought I may not make it through the day, it was still the best day ever! This third trimester is catching up with me. I've been getting in bed a 8 when all I do is sit at my desk at work so setting up, vending, and breaking down a craft show was way too much for this pregnant body. Six more weeks or so to go. Ben, my pregnant belly photographer, gets home today so stay tuned for a bump update.

I did score some awesome loot at the show for my baby girl. I didn't buy one single thing for myself...or the list Christmas list. Whoops. Despite my extreme fatigue, I couldn't wait to get home and put the whale print in a frame! Here's who made each item:
Whale Print by Marcy Davy (All Things Grow)
Skirted Bear by LUVKT
Cat Onesie by Everyday Balloons
Wooden Elephant and Giraffe by Happy Bungalow

These are the very first things I've bought for her. Crafty Supermarket has been a pregnancy benchmark for me since I found out I was pregnant right before the last show. I've been thinking for months that I just have to get through Crafty Supermarket, wrap up work, and then she's here. Oh my, time is moving so fast now. Today's to-do list: Get the house back into shape, unpack Fabricate, and hang out with Ben! Luckily my bf Meri is coming to the rescue to help unpack the store.

Progress

Painting! I'm feeling quite rusty but they are coming along slowly. I've got to figure out how to make myself do this more often. I always love it when I get in the middle of several paintings at once, it just doesn't happen that often these days. Read more about the show here opening this Saturday! This one that I'm holding is a pic of my mom when she was in high school I think. She has the cutest single dimple!

So Much Happening!!!!!

Tonight I stopped by Shake It Records to drop off a poster for the next Crafty Supermarket coming up on November 20th and the grand reopening and one year anniversary of Fabricate coming up this Saturday, November 13th. I decided to pick up a new CD which I can't remember the last time that I bought a CD. I grabbed OK GO because of this video that I was forever ago and I haven't been able to get it out of my head.
While many of their songs sound like they should give Prince some credit in the liner notes, it's over all good and has a lot of awesome bonus features.

Wendy Owens @ Fabricate!

I'm pretty excited about the next show at Fabricate. A few years ago I was trying to find cool artists and indie crafters who blog here in Cincinnati and I had a really hard time finding people but I found Wendy's blog and her etsy store and thought she was awesome. I wrote her an email to learn more about her and fast forward a few years and now she's showing at my store! She will have original works for sale along with prints and she'll even be taking orders for her books! For more information, or to rsvp visit our facebook event.

Yarn @ Fabricate!!!

Pretty excited!!! Thanks to Tonia from Knitted to a T! She took time away from her family today to drive over from Indiana and deliver the goods! Once my sewing obsession dies down, I'll be bringing some of this yarn home with me.

I ordered a new set of postcards for the store this week. Perhaps I

Next At fabricate

I can't believe we are planning our 3rd opening!!!! Photography by Scott Beseler opens January 9th, 2010 from 7-11. We are taking a week off between Christmas and New Year in order to recover from a crazy few months. This working everyday between my full time job and my passion project is sort of kicking my ass. It's worth it though!

Next At fabricate

Our next show at fabricate is in partnership with my good friend Lauren Koch and another DAAP student Lacey Voss. They are bringing together different students to showcase their finished projects for the quarter as well as selling drawings and or accessories that go along with the projects. I'm really excited to see it all come together! My show is up for another week so if you are one of the ten people that reads my blog and hasn't seen the show, come on by!

Tough Decisions

I made these hand warmers to sell at Fabricate but it's cold in here
today so I just have to wear them and keep them. Darn!

There They Are

All 100 paintings. I'm excited to see them all together the way
they've been in my head for months. Many of them have sold which is
exciting though there are a few that I'm sad to see go. There are
still some left so get to Fabricate!!!
